The Cervelo Soloist Force AXS Bike carries a name that earned its reputation in WorldTour racing. The original Soloist was the choice of top contenders on CSC and the Cervelo Test Team in the early 2000s — a race bike built for the kind of riding where decisions made on a summit descent determine the result. Cervelo brought the name back for a generation of riders who don't have a team mechanic checking the bike over every night, but still want race-ready performance as the standard, not the exception. The new Soloist is designed for the rider who can justify only one serious road bike — one that trains hard, races harder, and doesn't require choosing between aerodynamics and weight.
Cervelo places the Soloist between the S5 and R5 in their road lineup, and that positioning is precise. According to Cervelo's own testing, the Soloist is approximately 250g lighter than the S5 and approximately 250g heavier than the R5, while generating significantly less drag than the R5. It's not a compromise in the pejorative sense — it's a deliberate answer to a real question: what does a rider who values both climbing pace and aerodynamic return actually need? The Soloist's answer is to take the R5's acclaimed handling geometry, add an aero-optimized frame shape, and deliver the result at $7,500 with a Reserve carbon wheelset and SRAM Force AXS drivetrain built in.
Carbon Frame and R5 Geometry
The frame is all-carbon, paired with a Cervelo all-carbon fork. For handling geometry, Cervelo went directly to the R5 — the platform they developed for professional climbers who need precision when a mountain finish converts into a technical descent at speed. Head tube angles run from 71° on the smallest 48cm frame to 73° on sizes 54 through 61, giving the Soloist a steering response that builds confidence on long descents without losing quickness in technical terrain. Chainstay length holds at 410mm across all six sizes from 48 to 61cm — tight and consistent, keeping power delivery direct and the rear end responsive under acceleration. The bike is available in Dark Slate or Serpentine.
Cable Routing and BBRighT-47
Cervelo routes the Soloist's cables fully internal for aerodynamic advantage, but designed around the most common frustration with integrated cockpit systems. Rather than threading cables through the stem — which requires bleeding the hydraulic brakes any time the stem is swapped — Cervelo's system routes the cables under the stem and through the bearing cap. The practical result: stem length changes, position adjustments, and fit modifications don't involve a hydraulic service appointment. For a rider who adjusts position between racing and longer training rides, or who might change stem length as their fit evolves, this is a meaningful difference from most aero cable routing approaches.
The bottom bracket is BBRighT-47, a threaded standard that first appeared on the Cervelo R5-CX. Threaded bottom brackets are more tolerant of imperfect bearing fit, easier to service at home, and substantially less prone to creaking under sustained pedaling load than press-fit standards. For a bike designed to accumulate serious training miles alongside race appearances, that serviceability advantage is a long-term durability asset — not just a spec detail.
Reserve 42|49 Wheels and SRAM Force AXS
The wheelset is Reserve 42|49TA — 42mm front, 49mm rear — with DT Swiss 350 hubs, tubeless compatible at both ends. The asymmetric rim depths come out of Reserve's Turbulent Aero program, which develops wheel profiles using real-world wind data rather than optimal tunnel conditions. The shallower front rim reduces crosswind handling influence in variable conditions; the deeper rear delivers aerodynamic return where the rider's body provides natural shelter. DT Swiss 350 hubs bring reliable engagement, straightforward serviceability, and compatibility with standard cassette bodies. Stock tires are Vittoria Corsa N.EXT TLR G2.0 in 700x29, a fast-rolling tubeless setup on rims with enough internal width to support the casing properly.
The full drivetrain is SRAM Force AXS E1 — wireless electronic shifting front and rear, with an integrated power meter built into the SRAM Force AXS crankset. Chainrings are 48/35, paired with a 10-33 12-speed cassette that covers both high-cadence flat riding and sustained gradients without requiring a compact-only setup. SRAM Force AXS E1 hydraulic disc calipers with SRAM Paceline Centerlock rotors handle braking at both ends. The cockpit runs a Cervelo HB13 carbon handlebar and Cervelo SP27 carbon seatpost, with a Prologo Nago R4 PAS Tirox saddle. Pedals are not included.
Final Take
The Cervelo Soloist Force AXS doesn't ask you to choose between aerodynamics and weight, between race-day performance and training-day durability. The R5-derived geometry, the bearing-cap cable routing that survives stem swaps without a bleed, the BBRighT-47 bottom bracket built for real-world maintenance schedules, Reserve carbon wheels, and a full SRAM Force AXS build with an integrated power meter add up to a road bike that justifies the $7,500 price on completeness alone. If one bike has to do everything, the Soloist is Cervelo's answer to what that bike should be.
